Question 1

Do I need probate before you can clear the property?

Accepted Answer

Not always. Every situation is different, so we recommend checking that you have the appropriate authority before items are permanently removed or disposed of. We are happy to discuss what needs doing and arrange the clearance for a suitable time.

Question 2

Can you help if we are not sure what should be kept?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We understand that sorting through a loved one’s belongings can be difficult and sometimes overwhelming. We can work carefully with you, setting aside personal possessions, photographs, documents and other items that may need to be kept rather than disposed of.

Question 3

What happens to personal or valuable items you find?

Accepted Answer

We take extra care when clearing a property following a bereavement. If we come across personal documents, photographs, jewellery, money or anything that appears valuable or sentimental, we will put it aside rather than simply disposing of it.

Question 4

Can you clear the whole property?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can clear as much or as little as required, from individual rooms to a complete property, including lofts, garages, sheds and outdoor areas. We can tailor the service around the needs of the family or estate.

Question 5

Do I need to be at the property during the clearance?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. We understand that family members and executors may live some distance away or may prefer not to be present. Access and instructions can be agreed with us beforehand, allowing us to carry out the work respectfully and professionally.

Question 6

Can you work with executors, solicitors or estate agents?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We can work with family members, executors, solicitors, estate agents and other representatives involved in managing the property. We aim to make the clearance side of the process as straightforward as possible.

Question 7

What happens to the items you remove?

Accepted Answer

We aim to avoid unnecessary waste wherever possible. Suitable items may be separated for reuse or recycling, with remaining waste taken to appropriate facilities. Gone & Sorted is a registered waste carrier, so you can be confident that waste is handled responsibly.

Question 8

How quickly can you arrange a bereavement clearance?

Accepted Answer

We understand that sometimes a property needs to be dealt with quickly, while in other circumstances families need more time. Contact us to explain your situation and we will arrange a suitable date wherever possible. There is no pressure to proceed until you are ready.

Question 9

Can you give us a quote before we decide?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Contact us and tell us a little about the property and what needs to be cleared. We can then discuss the job with you and provide a quote before you decide whether you would like to go ahead.

Question 10

Will you treat the property and belongings respectfully?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We understand that a bereavement clearance is very different from an ordinary waste collection. We approach these properties with patience, discretion and respect, taking particular care around personal belongings, documents and items that may have sentimental value.
